George MacDonald was a Scottish author and poet. An avid writer of fairy tales, he is perhaps best known for his 'The Princess and the Goblin' which G.K. Chesterton stated "made a difference to my whole existence."
MacDonald was also an avid theologian and apologist and was a major influential figure to those such as W.H. Auden, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Madeleine L'Engle, Mark Twain, and Neil Gaiman. Indeed, Lewis wrote after reading MacDonald's 'Phantastes', that he regarded MacDonald as his "master."
